Abuse Support Center: Abuse and Recovery Information and Resources
The mere fact that so many different forms of abuse exist is frightening. When you consider that the above doesn't include all the possiblities its even more so. Abuse can be physical, mental, verbal, or even intimidation. Whether the abuse takes the form of Sexual Harassment, Bullying, or physical or emotional harm the results are serious. Victims (or Survivors) of abuse suffer a variety of problems such as low self-esteem, post-traumatic stress, and phobias. These effects linger and drive some to drastic measures. In most cases, the pain and anger of the survivor of abuse is acted out against themselves. This can take the form of self-injury such as cutting, or as eating disorders, and in some suicide. There are times that the pain and anger finds an external target... sometimes against their abusers, sometimes later in life against their family. Abuse has proven to be a factor in many school shootings as well. Don't stand for abuse, if you know someone who is abusing someone else, report them and stop the cycle of abuse.

Working to Halt Online Abuse
The mission of WHOA is to educate the Internet community about online harassment, empower victims of harassment, and formulate voluntary policies that systems administrators can adopt in order to create harassment-free environments. WHOA fully supports the right to free speech both online and off, but asserts that free speech is not protected when it involves threats to the emotional or physical safety of anyone. WHOA further asserts that online harassment is about power in a community: a power structure that has tended to accept or ignore harassment rather than actively seek to cease it. Our volunteers work with people currently experiencing online harassment, and help others to learn how to avoid such harassment or minimize its impact if it does occur. Our president, Jayne Hitchcock, regularly speaks at various conferences and seminars, training law enforcement personnel and other interested parties. She also lobbies for better federal and state laws to deter cyberstalkers and give victims more options to stop harassment.

Abuse Help - Dissociative Disorder Support Group
This support group is being offered to those people who have been diagnosed with any of the dissociative disorders such as DID, dissociative amnesia, dissociative fugue, etc. Dissociation can be defined on a continuum. On one end try to imagine yourself driving down the highway. Suddenly you have arrived at your destination but you cannot recall how you got there. You went through several traffic lights but you don't even recall whether the lights were red or green or how you made it to your destination. This is a form of mild dissociation and everyone does this. Continuing along this spectrum you can find yourself being very forgetful quite often. On the opposite end you would find dissociation defined as multiplicity which is now known as DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder). DID is not an illness nor is it a disease. The individuals that have been diagnosed with this disorder are not crazy. They are survivors of severe childhood trauma and the long-term effects have caused these individuals problems on how to process current information and react to everyday life. If you would like to seek support or offer support to others with DID or other dissociative disorders please join our group. Anyone looking for info for projects, surveys, or is NOT legitmately DID (or believe they are but are not diagnosed yet) or a supporter of one are not welcome.
