Feel the Joy of Your Unfulfilled Desires

You don’t stop very often to think about how you are feeling. And yet, how you are feeling is everything. How you are feeling is your point of attraction. How you are feeling is your asking from the Universe. How you are feeling is everything that is coming to you!
Most of you have not discovered that the Universe is conspiring to assist you. And so you work hard from an attitude of unworthiness, from a feeling that you are not enough, from a feeling that you have to justify. And what I want you to begin to do is recognize that the Universe is responding to the way you feel. So think about the way you feel.
Don’t think so much about what you’re thinking or about what you have or about how you compare with your actions or your possessions to others. Instead, think about how you feel. Ask yourself, “Am I sitting here in a feeling of well-being? Do I feel intimidated? Do I feel self-conscious? Do I feel inadequate? Do I feel unworthy? Or do I feel pretty good? Do I feel cocky? Do I feel full of myself? Do I feel in love with life? Do I feel exhilarated? Am I feeling fun? Am I feeling some passion?” How you’re feeling is what your point of attraction is.
Your Point of Attraction
If you’re feeling unworthy, you can work day and night, night and day, every day, and yet not allow the very things that you want to flow, because your vibration is not allowing it, and the Universe cannot buck your current. How you’re feeling is everything. So if I were standing in your physical shoes, I would let the contrast naturally produce the desire, because it will.
And when I feel a desire within me, I would look at it, I would recognize the weirdness of it, I would recognize how unfamiliar it feels, and then I would do what is my work: I will do the work that I have been born to do: My work is to take that new desire and play with it in my mind’s eye, until it feels familiar, until it feels like the manifestation of it is the next logical step.
The goal must exist to summon the Energy, but the goal can’t matter that much — or it stops the Energy.
Let us bring this to a place that if you get this, you will have quantum leaped into a new place of deliberate attraction: Most everybody stands here, dissatisfied to some degree, longing to be over there. But the whole point of that point of attention to over there is not to get over there. The whole point of the goal or the desire is that the desire summons Life Force through you.
That’s why you’re always wanting another goal, another goal, another goal. That’s why I say you will never get it done. So, “Why do I want that?” It’s an interesting thing, isn’t it? The goal must exist to summon the Energy, but the goal can’t matter that much, or it stops the Energy. You’re wanting the goal for the sake of the Energy that will flow through you, not for the sake of the manifestation.
A woman, one day, said to me, “I don’t think you care if my lover ever comes to me. I think you want me to envision him so clearly that in my mind’s eye, he is real — so real, that it doesn’t matter that he’s not really there.” And I said, that’s exactly right. I know when she feels him in that way, the pain will be gone from her, and the Life Force will flow through her, and all of her goals will be achieved. And I also know, then he must come. But it is not about him coming. It is about him being a goal that is reason for her to focus, that causes Life Force to flow through her. It is about the Life Force flowing through her.
I am delighted that you have unfulfilled goals, because as long as you have desire, Life Force is still flowing through you. From our Nonphysical perspective, I see the unfulfilled goal as the constant summoning of life. You say, “We want fulfilled goals!” And I say, Your goals will all be fulfilled when you get over being so unhappy that they’re not fulfilled — when you start being satisfied in the un-fulfillment!
The Cycle of Creation
Here I am. Here is this contrast that gives birth to a new desire. The new desire feels weird in the beginning, because this is where I’m used to vibrating. So I look at it; I talk about it; I visualize it; I play with it; I imagine it until it becomes familiar — and now it is the vibration that is me. And now we are one.
Now I have a new platform from which to examine contrast, which gives birth to another desire, which is also weird in the beginning. I’m a failure’ again; I haven’t succeeded. But I look at it; I visualize it; I find the feeling place of it; it gets familiar; I imagine it; and it becomes the next logical step. It manifests, and now here I am again… You never stop that cycle so long as you all shall live — which is forever.
You should say, “I will go forth into this physical time/space reality, because this is the best environment that I know of that will keep producing new desire within me. And nothing in all of the Universe is more delicious than to have new desire within me!”
Celebrate the desire that is within you, and stop cursing the fact that it isn’t fulfilled! It is the desire that is within you that is worth everything — it is life itself! You keep thinking that it must be manifested before you can feel good, and that is backwards. The fact that it exists is the reason for the Life Force.
There isn’t anything that you want or have ever wanted, or anybody has ever wanted or ever will want that is for any other reason than this: You want it because you think, in the having of it, you will feel better. And I am here to say to you, you want it because in the wanting of it, Life Force is summoned through you — and you are more alive. You are in the flow.
Being In The Flow is having goals that cause Energy to flow through you. It is being in such a place of expectation and acceptance of your eternal motion forward, that you are eternally in the flow. So people say, “How are you doing?” And you say, “Great!” And they say, “Well, is there anything not going well with you?” And you say, “Everything always goes well with me!” And they say, “Oh, but I see there are all these things incomplete in your experience.” And you say, “Yeah, isn’t it great? That means I’m still alive. I still have wanting, I’m still summoning life. That means I still have the future ahead of me. That means Life Force is still flowing.”
Have you ever found yourself eating an ice cream cone and wanting to make it last? Do you find yourself ever in a sexual interlude or in a delicious book, wanting it to last? You can tell you’re getting to the end of it, and you don’t want it to be over? You know that feeling of savoring? That’s the way we’re wanting you to be with your goals. And that may be why you’re not so eager to get on with the completion of everything. You’re recognizing that you have all of this life before you — so much wonderful stuff to do — never getting it done.
Where you now are is the perfect place to be, the perfect place to move from, the perfect place from which to attract. Nothing is inappropriate with where you are. There’s not one reason in this world for you to feel anything but proud about where you are and eager about what it will produce for you.
All things are possible. Oh, you can’t even begin to get your thoughts around what is before you! But you see, none of you are ever asked (and it’s a wonderful thing) to stand here and plan everything forevermore. Just stand where you are and let the natural desire that is born out of that come into alignment with you. That’s your work: Contrast produces it. You feel it, recognize it, and then line up your Energy with it.
You are born into an environment that will produce the goals. Your work is then to choose from those goals, focus, as the creator that you are, and in your focusing, allow the Energy to flow to the completion of those goals. There are endless possibilities.
So many of you spend your lifetimes arguing about what is an appropriate goal. I’m not kidding when I say you cannot get it wrong. There are no actions that are deemed inappropriate as such. Sometimes people say, you scare us, because as you talk about absolute freedom, we are afraid that you might give people permission to do bad things to other people.
Whether I give them permission or not, everybody’s going to do what they’re going to do, and you can’t get enough laws into place to keep that from happening. But I promise you, no one would ever do anything bad to any other at the same time they were connected to Source Energy. You never connect to Source Energy and lash out against anyone else.
As you are pushing against wrongdoers, even though they might be really doing wrong, your pushing against them disconnects you from any real power. You think the strongest one wins. But your pushing against them is dis-empowering you, and their pushing against you is dis-empowering them. So if your opponent wins, it is actually because you pushed against hardest.
When you are pushing against someone –you are weakening yourself. “My adversary won because I did a better job of disallowing my well-being. I pushed harder against him.” I’m just wanting to get a little twist on this, so that you can give up all that pushing against, because it never helps.
There has been co-creating here that has taken this thought beyond that which it has been before. Once you have an opportunity to review this, you will realize that together, we will have achieved a sort of quantum leap in understanding.

11:11 – Synchronicity & The Greater Reality
August 30, 2009 by Lilly

11:11 represents a physical and spiritual merging of your soul. Many of us associate 11:11 as some sort of wake-up code/alarm as we see it on digit clocks and watches. It can also be seen as a key to unlock the subconscious mind/ our memories and connections to who we are as spirit having a physical experience – not physical beings having a spiritual experience.
What is reality if it isn’t real? Do you see 11:11 on the clock a little too much? Ever see the movie: Dark City? What if this was all an experiment. What if everything seemed normal except that you knew that things weren’t normal; that things were not as they seemed.
What if every now and then, you had a glimpse of what was behind the curtain; the ghost in the machine… A few recent movies have hinted at this crack in “Reality”. Take a good look at The Matrix. A few other movies worth noting are: Pi; Fight Club; The Truman Show; They Live; Brazil and Pleasantville. Also included should be the old TV show: The Prisoner.
During the past few years, many of us have seen this number far too often to be coincidence. Metaphysical author Solara has described 11:11 as an inter-dimensional synchronization frequency. Interestingly – 11:11 is also found in the Great Pyramid.
The number 11:11, then, seems to be a key harmonic to access the doorway to the Father Universes, which are catalyzing the dimensional shift. Eleven has been called the harmonic of the doorway of ascension, the portal beyond the physical.
The repetition of this number symbolizes the resolution of duality through perfect balance and symmetry, or the underlying unity principle, as expressed in all of creation that is polar or dual. Past/future, male/female, light/dark – all polarities harmonized and balanced: this is what occurs during ascension, the next step beyond the dimensional shift If you have the 11:11 Synchronicity pattern (seeing 11:11 on the clock, phone numbers, receipts, etc.) then you know there is something to it.
When you have eliminated all which is impossible, then whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth. ~ Sherlock Holmes
Inside the Doorway of the 11:11
The Vision
Standing on the Equator one can see two spirals, one originating in the North, the other originating in the South, spiraling ever closer together. It is the eternal dance of the One Heart. As the two become the One, the Second Gate is opened… From the core of the One Heart, the Lotus of True Love finally blossoms… This is the completion of the Legend of Isis & Osiris. And the scepter passes from North to South.
The Doorway of the 11:11
On January 11, 1992, hundreds of thousands of us joined together in conscious Oneness all over the planet and performed a series of Unified Movements creating wheels within wheels. This unified action opened the Doorway of the 11:11. What this did was create a Zone of Overlap between two very different spirals of evolution: the Template of Duality and the Template of Oneness. There are some who think that the 11:11 Activation is over, but it’s not, it has just begun. This is our doorway to Ascension. The Doorway of the 11:11 is open until November 11, 2011. During this time we have the opportunity to shift spirals and move into a Greater Central Sun System.
The Eleven Gates
Inside the Doorway of the 11:11 are Eleven Gates. These Gates are Portals of Initiation to new plateaus of awareness. Each Gate is similar to a lock in a canal, serving as a *stepping up station* to a new, more highly calibrated frequency band. After we enter each Gate, we proceed through its initiatory process, aligning and recalibrating our beings to that frequency band until we reach the subsequent Gate.
This is the patterning sequence of how we move from the Template of Duality to the Template of Oneness with the totality of our Beings through the Eleven Gateways of Initiation. As each of the Eleven Gates are activated, there is a corresponding activation of key planetary points which serve as Master Grid Vortexes on the new Starry Grid Network. Once activated, this grid will supersede all of our previous Earthly grid systems.
The First Gate
When we opened the Doorway of the 11:11, we began our journey through the First Gate. The predominant focus of the First Gate was the healing of our emotions, the activation of our Greater Hearts and the creation of new emotional bodies. This has enabled us to align with the One Heart. As we moved into the subtle, aqueous currents of the First Gate, we took our first steps into the realms of the Invisible.
The Second Gate
The Second Gate is the next step on our Homeward Journey. It was activated on June 5th, 1993. *(The numerology for this date adds up to a 33.)* This means that a new frequency band was made available upon which we can travel until the opening of the Third Gate in approximately three years. The main focus of the Second Gate is the anchoring of the Template of True Love, the reuniting of all opposites into conscious Oneness, and the subsequent merger into ever greater wholeness.
During our passage through the Second Gate, we will find ourselves reenacting a new phase of our journey Home. We descended into matter by fragmenting our beings into smaller and smaller units of consciousness, now we shall find ourselves reuniting with these fragments, *the ones whom we term True Loves,* and forming larger units. These larger units are simply our Greater Selves. This merger will begin with union with one other person and gradually include more members of our Essence family as we become increasingly vaster. By the time that we reach the portals of the other gates, we will be in small groups of merged beings who are functioning as one larger being.
What is True Love?
True Love is one of the most misunderstood concepts of our time. While everyone is looking and longing for the perfect partner, they are missing the point entirely. True Love is not to be found in any one person. *True Love is a state of consciousness wherein we embody the One Heart.* It is an all encompassing state of pure Love. While this can be experienced with another person, it is the love, not merely the relationship, that is true. As we travel through the Second Gate, we shall be reuniting with others of our Star Lineage as we retrace our way Home. These people will have a symmetry of Essence which will make for very amazing relationships. And together as One we shall experience the Truest of Love.
The Template of True Love
The Template of True Love was first anchored on Earth in Egypt at the Temple of Isis on the island of Philae on January 17, 1992. This activation was not possible until the Doorway of the 11:11 had been open and the Template of Oneness established. Anchoring the Template of True Love has facilitated the needed shift from the old emotional body of duality to the One Heart. As we do this, we begin to live our lives in a constant state of True Love, every day and in every way. Embodying True Love, we enter a state of sublime ecstasy which becomes our foundation upon the New Road.

A Trigger of Remembrance
For many years the numbers 11:11 have been mysteriously appearing to people all over the world. Often appearing on digital clocks, the sightings of 11:11 tend to occur during time of heightened awareness, having a most powerful effect on the people seeing them.
Each time we see the numbers 11:11 our cellular memory banks are further activated. There’s a stirring deep inside, a hint of remembrance of something long forgotten. The appearance of 11:11 is a powerful confirmation that we are on the right track, aligned with the Greater Reality.
Repeated sightings of 11:11 have happened to millions of people throughout the world. Many want to know why this is happening? What does the 11:11 signify? When the 11:11 appears to you, it is your wake-up call. A direct channel opens up between you and the Greater Reality. The 11:11 is an insertion point for the Greater Reality to enter into the present moment. When this happens, it is time to stop whatever you are doing and LOOK LARGER. A transfer is in position.
You can enter the Greater Reality and travel deeper into the Invisible. You can seed a long held desire, receive a vision, ask for help in some specific area of your life, or simply feel the Invisible insert itself into the present moment. The revelations you receive will not come in the form of mental concepts. Rather it will be an enhanced state of being in which you will see everything as if with new eyes. A deeper understanding of what is truly real will surround you.
The appearance of 11:11 is an always beneficial act of Divine Intervention.
It tells you that it is time to take a good look around you and see what is real and what is illusory. It’s time to pierce the veils of illusion which keep us bound to an unreal world. You have been chosen, because you are ready, to step into a Greater Reality. To lead the way for others into a new way of living, into a Greater Love. To ascend from duality into Oneness.
The 11:11 is the bridge between duality and Oneness. It is our pathway into the Unknown.
The 11:11 Activation
The Doorway of the 11:11 opened on January 11th, 1992 and is scheduled to close on December 31st, 2011. On January 11, 1992 well over a hundred thousand people gathered together in groups large and small throughout the planet and opened the Doorway of the 11:11. This activation was unique in that a series of Unified Movements and Sacred Dances were performed at three preordained times. The participants wore white to symbolize their inherent Oneness. Never before has there been an event of such synchronized unity on this planet.
There were two Master Cylinders during the 11:11 Activation which served as the stabilization pinions for the Wheels within Wheels Unified Movements. They were located at the Great Pyramids in Giza, Egypt and in Queenstown, New Zealand. Here, the Unified Movements were performed for thirty-eight continuous hours. The Egyptian group was composed of 500 people from thirty-six countries.
Throughout the planet, the Unified Movements were performed at 11:11 am, 11:11 pm & 11:11 pm Greenwich Meantime. It was during this GMT time, when all the groups performed the movements at exactly the same time, that the Doorway of the 11:11 officially opened. Many participants saw a brilliant shaft of light anchor deep within the Earth during this time.
The purpose of the 11:11 Activation was to open the Doorway of the 11:11. This Doorway is the transition zone or bridge between two very different spirals of evolution; those anchored in duality and Oneness. Each evolutionary spiral is aligned with different Great Central Sun Systems. During the 11:11 Ceremony these two spirals overlapped and interlocked into a docking position.
This Zone of Overlap is the actual Doorway of the 11:11. The overlapping of spirals remains in position until the 11:11 closes on December 31st, 2011. This is when the two spirals of evolution will separate once again. Thus, we have a twenty year period in which to graduate from duality and make our ascension into Oneness.
I am posting this today (and have written many time about this in my Newsletters over the last 9 years) because 11:11 phenomena has been a reality for me since I was 6 years old. The reality of 11:11 as it relates to absolute love, integrity, synchronicity, and oneness– is what has helped bring me “full circle” in my life, in unison, certainly, with God, Spirit, and Mother Earth.
I am also in the process of finishing up reading the simply outstanding book written by my friend Eric Rankin called The Aquarians which accurately encompasses the 11:11 phenomena, as well as other Mayan Prophecies (look for my personal written review soon!)
I also found this 11:11 video interesting on YouTube:
I would LOVE to know, by comment, how many of you have experienced this 11:11 Phenomenon, and if so, how many passed it off as coincidence at first?
I am currently completing research for the book that I am writing, and your thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated and perhaps incorporated into this section of the book. My book is 4 years in the making and is due to be published on 11/11/11. I know that seems a long time away , but perfection takes time, and publishing it on this date will have great significance for me, and I believe, for everyone who happens to read it

The Law of Harmony
August 20, 2009 by Lilly

Laws are the dictates of nature. When adhered to, they produce harmony. Human laws ideally ought to reflect laws of nature. When they don’t, then disharmony is created.
When we think of harmony we typically think of music, as this is a clearly seen, or heard, expression of harmony. When sounds are harmonious they are pleasing to us. When notes are combined in different ways they can produce chords, which are used to produce pieces of music we can enjoy together. What is interesting about this example is that for a chord to be produced from a combination of notes, each note must contribute to that formation. Otherwise, discord results from the disharmony.
When a note ‘disregards’ the whole of which it is a part and does its own thing, discord results. When an individual disregards others and is focused just on doing his or her own thing, disharmony is often created. Just as the note finds its true value in relation to what it contributes, so too humans find their personal value and deeper satisfaction in their contribution to others.
This contribution does not imply conformity, however. When we conform we lose our individuality and our personal uniqueness and value. It is this unique value which is our most precious contribution to others.
Harmony implies that a living thing, including you and me, must contribute in a way that augments (we often say, empowers) others if harmony is to be created. What empowers are those universal qualities we have within ourselves that others need to have supported or awakened within themselves.
When the question of harmony is considered there are always two realities – individuals and a collection of individuals, be they notes, people, animals, etc. A collection of individual humans can be called a community. There are many words in different languages that relate to this fundamental reality of human nature – words like community, commune, communication, communion, common, the commons, commonwealth, and commonweal.
The principle law governing community is the Law of Harmony. A community is a natural reality, and the Law of Harmony is a natural universal law. One of the greatest difficulties we have on the planet is existence of communities in conflict. We have a real need to attempt to create more harmonious communities. Our ability to express ourselves adequately and fulfill our purpose for being depends upon it.
Community is an externalization of the reality we call soul. Literally, a community is a group of individuals living in unity. Most people do not think of unity when they think of community, seeing it more as a collection of individuals who happen to be together. When a community does not live in unity, the soul of the community is denied, and therefore unconditional love, which is the essence of soul, is thwarted. This deprivation of connection and acceptance, easily leads to fear, mistrust, isolation, and in many cases also to racism, hatred and war.
Unity is not uniformity. It therefore does not require conformity. Unity is a state of consciousness and therefore respects diversity of form and expression. It suggests unanimity, which means to be of one spirit or one soul. It is an inner identification with the other as oneself. We could say that it is the soul within recognizing itself in the other. For at a soul level we are one.
Harmony produces harmonics. These are resonances in other octaves. What this means psychologically and spiritually is that when harmony is present those experiencing it open themselves automatically to other dimensions of reality and other levels of their own being. Harmony awakens potentials and expands consciousness, bringing into expression through individuals such qualities as respect, acceptance, tolerance, understanding, empathy, compassion and unanimity.
Harmony awakens the soul and soul creates a community of people who live together creatively and purposefully through which the very best in human nature can unfold.
| Exercises:
1. How do you promote unity in your relationships? 2. When do you conform in a way that inhibits you from expressing your uniqueness in support of others? 3. How and when do you create disharmony or discord? 4. How would describe your valued contribution to your community? |
Spiritual Empowerment

As you look around yourself, what do you see? Did you know that every person and circumstance that appears in your life was brought into being by a natural process that is always operating within your subconscious mind? For most people, this process operates automatically, beneath the surface of their conscious awareness.
Your entire being has been made in the image and likeness of the Creator, that which has brought the entire universe into manifestation. In esoteric Kabalah, the Creator is described as having four distinct powers that combine to bring new creations to life. These powers are will, imagination, intellect and matter.
These powers also exist within all human beings, though they are typically operating with far less consciousness than that which resides within the Limitless Source. Thus the creations brought into being unconsciously by the human may result in circumstances of limitation, frustration, delay, lack or other undesirable outcomes.
In the process of Spiritual Empowerment, the sacred powers of will, imagination, intellect and body are accessed, purified and activated. This focused exploration into the depths of oneself can greatly expand consciousness, and bring one into full command of the natural creation process. As steps are taken to focus these powers on perfecting one’s life; old, limiting circumstances disappear.
Some may find the idea of such a life-changing awakening a bit overwhelming. If I am creating everything in my world, why I am struggling so hard? Why did I not create a perfect and beautiful life? What about the other people in my life who bring their own agendas into my domain? The answers to these questions point to power and consciousness, two mechanisms that can present many challenges to the will, imagination, intellect and body of the human.
Did you know that most people are afraid of their own power? This is due to potent conditioning that begins at birth, and is deeply reinforced throughout one’s life. Feelings of nervousness, fear or anxiety in any circumstance are a signal that you are not fully aligned with your own power. One of the first issues we address in Spiritual Empowerment is the transmutation of all fear back into your essential power.
If you have tried any methods to manifest your desires, such as those described as the “Law of Attraction”, but have not gotten the results you wanted, it is quite possibly due to imbalances and obstructions in one or more of the four basic powers. Through the process of Spiritual Empowerment, the will, imagination, intellect and body are freed from conditioned limitations. Resistances to change are easily overcome as empowerment energy merges into all levels of the being. The true self is awakened and the identity shifts from the lower to the higher.
From this point forward, one becomes more fully alive and divine power flows abundantly and freely in the body-mind and out into the world. Where before there was uncertainty, limitation, and less than perfect outcomes, now there is confidence in the inexhaustible source of perfection from where one may draw all things needful for a healthy, happy, harmonious life.
You may now surround yourself with whatever you desire – a beautiful home, better health, a great body, more money, people who support your goals and want to help you, connections to resources to quickly advance your own aspirations, and most importantly, greater awareness of your true spirit and its mission in life.

Lessons from the Source: A Spiritual Guidebook for Navigating Life’s Journey
July 24, 2009 by Lilly
With the grace and elegance that occurs only in profound communion with divine spirit, Jack Armstrong is an eloquent communicator of his explorations within the spiritual realm, few of us have even considered, much less explored fully. Lessons from the Source reflects a source of wisdom that explains the deeper truths of our lives. It offers simple down-to-earth, yet powerful lessons about life and spirituality, posing a revitalizing perspective about our life on earth.
It is an absolute message about the vital force flowing within us and without us. It is about becoming aware of the negative, self-doubting and criticism in each of us that is projected outward daily. Before anything else, it’s about how to transform that negativity into a “positive” way of being, or comparably, a joy of Being.
As a intuitive healing arts practitioner and author with a 14 year private practice, I found Jacks book to be of immeasurable support and comfort to my clients and friends as they struggle to make spiritual sense of the intense suffering that sometimes accompanies life challenges. The insights gained through Lessons from the Source, shine a light of gentle, compassionate clarity and understanding to situations that could otherwise be harshly judged.
Also, like many, I have read spirituality-related material written by authors such as Gregg Braden, Judith Orloff, Ken Wilber, Doreen Virtue, Byron Katie, and Sonia Choquette. All outstanding authors, indeed. But after reading Lessons from the Source, I noticed that a subtle shift had taken place within me. I was able to distinguish and internalize the lessons in a way that was effortless; I felt and “knew” Jack’s guidance on an internal level, rather than just as an external idea to be discussed. Another sharp departure this book takes from others like it, is that Mr. Armstrong has written it without the ego that frequently accompanies spiritual teachings.
Why me? It is a question so often thought, cried, and asked by many. Blame is placed on higher powers as surely as emotion is felt. Isn’t it possible though, that our trials and tribulations, our painful experiences, are full of purpose? What if an author would share with you that your own soul actually planned for these things to happen? That there is indeed a reason for it all? If there have been simply too many “coincidences” in your life for them to be random, discover this book. It will help you believe in yourself and in the greater goodness and everlasting nature of all life.
If you feel inclined to read this book, I cannot recommend it highly enough. Excellent all the way to the end. Bravo, and Thank You, JACK, for courageously and eloquently presenting these delicately touching stories and insights. Thank you for giving us all the freedom to expand, accept, love ourselves more, and grow grow grow. Simply, Thank You!

Our Sacred World
July 12, 2009 by Lilly

Soul often reveals itself in myth – a symbolic representation or story of reality. There is a new myth attempting to come into our consciousness. This myth has the fundamental image of the unity or oneness of all life. It also has the image of the unity of all human beings. And it has within it the commitment of true service to others.
When new myths emerge from the unconscious spiritual dimensions they contradict the prevailing perceptions and thinking, and the common ways of living and understanding, because they are the emergence of the new soul or the new consciousness which has yet to be accepted as real and incorporated into our thinking.
What is it that stands opposed to the new myth in society and at times within ourselves? Is it not the common habit of viewing the world in which we live from mechanistic, scientific, analytical or physical perspectives? When we do this we engage our senses without involving the soul. We thereby remain on the surface of relationships, and give away the power of controlling our own lives and loves to external forces. We thus find ourselves increasingly disconnected from the world and others, and we become increasingly afraid of close encounters and intimate connections. In fact, we make victims of ourselves, feeling and believing that it is other people and situations that determine our experiences.
To many of us the world has lost its sacredness. People have become deaf and blind to the voices and visions of the loving and intelligent divine presence. The expansion of consciousness now emerging requires the psychic restoration of a sense of the sacred in order that soul, which crosses species and encompasses all kingdoms, can become the dominant center of consciousness from which we live our lives.
We need to ensoul our senses so that we can perceive the more subtle energies present – the divine intelligence (the elemental beings), the inherent love of all things in existence (what enables matter to join and fuse with other particles of matter. And we need to ensoul our minds so that what we analyse, take apart and create can be put into a larger more universal reality with inherent meaning and purpose.
Perceiving the world and others as sacred is a moral act, just as perceiving the world and others as defective is an immoral act. What is moral must correspond to the truth. According to Robert Sardello, to develop this moral perception all we need to do is “be more receptive and let the things of the world completely fill our consciousness, holding in abeyance the willful encroachment of our thinking into our surroundings. Gradually a soul mood of holiness comes through strongly along with whatever we are perceiving. Seeing the world through the developed capacities of soul not only reveals more of what is there but also invites back the Spiritual presences that have receded because of the literal-minded way we have come to view the world …” (Robert Sardello, Freeing The Soul From Fear, p. 129)
With the decline of religion which, for centuries, has been the custodian of morality, we need to find the essence of morality in a deeper understanding of life. Morality is declining in the world, and yet it is of such vital importance as we enter the age of relationships. We now know from the new consciousness perspective that an immoral act is a result of not deeply connecting with the object of one’s awareness or with the other in a relationship. Without connecting to the soul, the essence of the other, it is not possible to know who or what they are.
In place of the truth of the other, one creates a distorted perception of the other. This implies that there is no true love in the attitude or connection with essence in that relationship. Where love is lacking, immorality is present because the lack of love creates separation and disconnection from soul. This disconnection or lack of conscious soul is contrary to the true nature of human relationship. Morality, therefore, becomes a measure of our love.
We need to wake up to the ways that Spirit enters our world and speaks to us through others, inviting us in every single relationship into a creative partnership. This is our potential inspiration, but also our potential pain. Morality is not the path of ease, but of responsible love and sensitive awareness of the true nature of all beings.

The Vibrational Garden

I’ve read that gardening is one of the most popular activities in the U.S., and it seems to be equally popular in other countries. We humans have an innate desire to restore or deepen our connection to the earth and its cycles of renewal, growth, completion, and death.
Making things come to life and grow symbolizes the process by which we make our dreams flower. We can learn useful lessons from this physical process to deepen our skills at manifestation.
Natural Resources
As any gardener can tell you, sun and rain fall on flowers and weeds alike. They have equal access to the nourishment in the soil. Thus, they have basically equal opportunities to grow. Gardeners, however, have preferences. They devote their attention to encouraging the flowers or vegetables and discouraging or eradicating the weeds.
Imagine if a gardener came to you and said, “I don’t understand what’s happening with my garden this year. I keep on watering the weeds and giving them fertilizer, and they keep on growing all over the place.
“Oh, and my flowers, I’m stepping on them and neglecting them and they’re dying. What’s going wrong?”
We might think that gardener needed some basic lessons in cultivation. However, when it comes to our emotional and mental gardens, we sometimes tend them in the same manner.
Negative Attention
Gardeners know that whatever they give physical attention and energy to will grow. Our emotional and mental energy and focus creates the same results in our lives.
Years ago I read in the Seth Material (channeled by the late Jane Roberts) a very simple, yet powerful explanation of how we create what happens in our lives.
The example given related to a sore toe. Maybe you landed on it the wrong way, wore shoes that were too tight, bumped into something, or dropped something on it. Toes, like fingers, seem to experience pain disproportionate to their size, radiating sensations that aren’t always easy to ignore.
Unless you divert your attention, it tends to be drawn to the throbbing toe. You may look at it more often than usual, touch it to see if it still hurts. You notice that it hurts when you walk, when you don’t walk, and at night, it seems to hurt even more. The more it hurts, the more your attention is drawn to it. The more your attention is drawn to it, the more it hurts.
As you go through your day, you begin to notice advertisements for pain relief or perhaps for products designed specifically to relieve foot pain. You seem to see a lot of people limping. And all the while, the condition of your toe seems to be getting worse.
I Should Have Stayed in Bed
Maybe it’s not your toe, it’s your life. You wake up and, for no particular reason, the day doesn’t look right. It could be a gray sky, thoughts of something you have to do that you’d rather not, or a general feeling of unease.
Wearing a small gray cloud above your head, you turn on the shower and discover there’s no hot water. You do the best you can to feel clean, then go into the kitchen to find out there’s no milk for your coffee (or no coffee — an authentic disaster).
You begin to wonder what can go wrong next. This is dangerous question is nearly always answered. The day lurches along from bad to worse, and by its end, you barely have the energy to stumble into bed and hope the following day will be better. This day has been such unrelieved suffering that you’re beginning to think some universal force has it in for you.
A Garden Gone Wild
We have other ways of growing weeds. A gardener wouldn’t stand in front of a patch of weeds and say, “I hate those weeds, disgusting, ugly weeds” or lie awake at night worrying about them. We not only do that; we get on the phone with friends and say,
“Hey, I have these terrible weeds.” Then they often say, “Oh, I have them, too; in fact, I bet my weeds are bigger and more awful than yours are.”
Then we wonder why there are no flowers in our lives.
Spiritual Gardening
We don’t eliminate out our negative thoughts and emotions in the same way a gardener pulls out weeds. The most effective way to eradicate them is to give them no attention or as little attention as possible.
We’ve all had the experience of physical pain diminishing or disappearing when we distract ourselves from it. The more positive a distraction is the more likely it is to have a healing effect. In the book, Anatomy of an Illness, the late Norman Cousins describes how he healed himself of a potentially fatal illness by watching movies that made him laugh. In vibrational terms, he shifted his attention and energy away from what was negative and turned it towards something positive and energizing. The more he focused on the positive, the more positive feelings came to him.
Often, we’ve, without realizing it, created habits of negative thoughts and feelings around certain subjects: bills, taxes, unpleasant weather, difficult family members. The mere mention of such subjects turns on the faucet of negative emotion, and it begins to flow.
It’s easy to identify these areas. When you think about them you feel depressed or angry, sad or discouraged. That’s when it’s time to plant some flowers.
Sidestepping Dental Disaster
Going to the dentist rates high on my negativity hit parade. I recently had to have a tooth pulled by an oral surgeon. I easily fell into old habits of thought about the upcoming torture. I woke up the morning after I made the appointment feeling as if a thick gray curtain had been pulled between me and daylight. Things started going badly the minute my feet hit the floor.
I truly didn’t think I had a choice in how I reacted. I hadn’t had a tooth pulled in several years, but I knew it HAD to be painful.
Then a voice, hard to hear above the grumbles of suffering, asked, “Why? Why does it HAVE to be?” Having no good answer for that question, I reconsidered the dental issue, deciding it didn’t HAVE to be.
My first action to shift gears was to think of every positive thing I could. I took time to appreciate each of the cats (who were very cooperative about being appreciative). I enjoyed the sunshine. I paid special visits to several of my favorite crystals. I put on my favorite oil blend (Winner’s Luck Roll-on, which seems to work for any situation in which I want to come out a winner). I did some aerobic exercise.
When I started to work at my computer, I listened to one of my favorite Internet radio stations. I started the day with an easy task and didn’t go on to challenges until I felt that my energy had shifted to the positive side.
To shift my mood specifically with regard to the coming appointment, I thought of every positive thing I could about it.
1. The tooth wasn’t going to hurt any more.
2. The oral surgeon was excellent, and also a nice, kindly grandfatherly sort of gentleman.
3. I also envisioned the surgery and the following days as painless, easy, uneventful. I took these visions as far as I could. The minute I began to experience fear or pain, I jumped right out, and didn’t go back to imagining until later.
Whenever I found my thoughts drifting towards negativity, I distracted myself with something entertaining. I read more in the days preceding the surgery than I usually do; I watched videos. I collected positive quotes for upcoming Rainbow Reflections articles.
In addition, when I meditated I imagined floods of healing energy coursing through me.
It worked. The tooth departed my jaw in a matter of seconds. “We got lucky,” the kindly, skillful oral surgeon said. “It’s usually not that easy.”
Three days later I returned to his office to have the the extraction site looked at. “It looks very good,” he said, sounding surprised. “Gums don’t usually heal this fast after this kind of surgery. You must be a good healer.”
I smiled.
A Parting Bouquet
Truly creative and successful gardeners also spend time imagining how beautiful the flowers will be once they’re blooming. They get as much pleasure from anticipating the glory of their gardens as they do when the flowers actually bloom.
The more we focus on our dreams, envisioning them as if they are actually flowering, the more we’re able to bring them to life. In a garden bursting with flowers, there’s no room for weeds.
Gardening Tools
Crystals
Regardless of any of their other characteristics, you want to play with crystals that are shiny, sparkling, and light-filled and/or any crystals you know give you an especially good feeling.
Herkimer diamonds are known as the happy stones A sparkly Herkimer, especially when placed on the solar plexus (where anxiety can gather), heart (for any negative emotion), or third eye (to clear up mental/emotional confusion) can be very effective.
Amber, though less dramatic, can help to dissolve depression.
Any crystal with rainbows can have a cheering effect. Hold one, moving it slightly to watch the rainbows dance.
I’ve found Merkabah-carved crystals to be very distracting, especially in translucent crystals. My smoky Merkabah is my favorite companion when I want to travel down happier roads.
Smoky and rutilated quartz in general have both a grounding and uplifting effect. They also help us to manifest our dreams.
Think of shapes, too. Hold an egg and say to yourself, “I am creating a new beginning.” Gaze into a sphere and say, “My life is complete in joy.”
Essences
Rescue Remedy is the all-purpose vibrational shifter. Containing Impatiens for impatience, Cherry Plum for breaking free of unwanted but obsessive thoughts, Star of Bethlehem for shock and trauma, Clematis for grounding, and Rock Rose and terror, it can help to handle just about any negative emotion.
A number of Wild Earth Animal Essences can be helpful for your vibrational garden. Playful Otter and Dolphin can be miraculous in shifting the focus of one’s attention, and lighthearted Hummingbird can allow the possibility of joy to fertilize your dreams.
Zebra helps us to stop seeing things in black and white, in either-or terms. It helps to shake up our fixed ways of interpreting events and helps us to look deeper, creating a mental space beyond contradiction and conflict.
Sometimes Pine helps to relieve the guilt associated with “I must suffer because. . . .” Don’t fill in the blank. Affirm, “I don’t have to suffer,” or to be even more positive: “My life is meant to be joyful,” and take Pine.

From Soul To You

The beginning of a new year is a traditional time for making new resolutions about one’s life. But today will do too! One of the most important resolutions we can make is to begin a journey of self-discovery. In order to do this we need to understand how we got detoured in the first place.
The soul is that aspect of our being which has never forgotten its purpose. It attempts to give travel directions to the personality, that aspect of ourselves which functions in physical reality–but the personality doesn’t always receive the message. We may have learned not to believe in the soul, and also learned either to tune out its messages or to interpret them as a sign of lunacy.
Thus, the first and most important step on a journey of self-discovery is to believe that there is a self to be discovered, that the map of possibilities we need is within ourselves, and accessible. It isn’t enough to plant this belief; it must be nurtured as well, because in the beginning we need to trust in our souls without having any actual evidence of their existence. Faith, however, goes hand in hand with good works, and there is much we can do to help restore the interrupted lines of communication.
Paths and Patterns
Often when we play detective and investigate our own lives we find valuable clues. When you were a child what activities made you happiest? With whom did you have your most rewarding relationships? (These questions may also be asked about your present life.)
By looking for patterns you can discover both the shape of possibilities in your life and the ways in which you’ve blocked them. For example, someone might discover that all her life people had told her that she would make a wonderful therapist, and that she, from lack of self-esteem, had never believed them. She might remember opportunities for doing counseling which she had refused. Someone else might remember a place he had always longed to visit, and how its name always seemed to come up–in conversation or in the books he reads.
In your search you will find your dreams valuable. Dreams are an important vehicle through which the soul communicates with the personality. In the dream state we’re free to experiment with various possibilities for our lives, finally choosing the ones most suitable for physical manifestation. Our dream images express our deepest feelings and wishes as well as the beliefs which may prevent their expression.
Pay close attention to your dreams, recording them, and re-reading them to discover messages and patterns. Receptivity to your dreams will enhance your ability to be receptive during your waking hours.
Be alert as well for the clues which may come up in day-to-day life. You may be intrigued by someone’s description of a Polynesian dance class; you may have a sudden urge to learn to play the oboe. Playing the oboe or dancing the hula may not be your life’s purpose, but following the impulse which pulls you most strongly can only lead you in the appropriate direction.
Getting Specific
You can also clarify your possibilities by asking these questions:
If I didn’t have to work for a living what would I love to do?
If I were given $1 million, tax-free, what would be the first thing I’d do with it?
In doing this exercise be careful not to censor yourself. Don’t worry if an idea which comes into your mind just seems to ridiculous or too impossible. These are the reactions which helped us to get off-course in the first place. What you write down isn’t your final life plan, but–as in the case of your impulses–various attractive possibilities.
Next, look at each possibility you’ve written down and ask yourself what value you will get from it. Do you want that boat because you love sailing and the sea? If so, what feeling does that give you? Do you want to sail around the world because you’d like to learn about other cultures? Why does that interest you?
Keep adding to the list. As you study it, in combination with the information you’ve received from dreams, etc., you will find that you’re clarifying both the nature of your gifts and interests, and the commitment you feel to contribute to others.
Another way to get to the latter is to ask yourself a third question, “How would I like to be remembered when I’m gone? Do I want people to say I was brilliant, considerate, generous?”
How you would like to be remembered is really how you would like to be right now. Translate this feeling of commitment into a statement of purpose. Remember that no one is grading it; there’s no deadline, and you can rewrite and refine it as many times as you want to. You’ll know when it’s right for you; you’ll have a feeling of resonance and attunement.
The next step is to align your life so that it’s an appropriate vehicle for your purpose. When Michelangelo was asked how he sculpted his works of art he said that he simply cut away everything which wasn’t the statue. This is good advice, but let’s go easy on the drastic, sweeping changes. Call on Turtle medicine and remember that slow and steady wins the race. The more surely you integrate your purpose into your being the easier change will be.
Remember too, that as you begin to nurture your purpose you will find it growing. You’ll discover that it’s not the end, but the beginning, not a traveling away from yourself, but your journey home.
Does Your Worldview Support Your Ability To receive Inner Guidance?

What is a “Worldview”? A worldview is a person’s set of assumptions about the basic makeup and nature of the world and universe. A fully developed worldview gives basic answers to questions such as:
1) What is ultimately the prime reality? (…such as “God”, or Matter/Energy)
2) What is the basic nature of the universe?
3) What is the basic nature and condition of man?
4) What happens to man at death?
5) What is the reason or basis of ethics and morality?
One of the biggest problems of present society is the effect of overall change and acceleration on human psychology. Neither individual minds nor collective culture seem able to cope with the unpredictable change and growing complexity. Stress, uncertainty and frustration increase, minds are overloaded with information, knowledge fragments, values erode, negative developments are consistently overemphasized, while positive ones are ignored.
The resulting climate is one of nihilism, anxiety and despair. While the wisdom gathered in the past has lost much of its validity, we don’t have a clear vision of the future either. As a result, there does not seem to be anything left to guide our actions.
What we need is a framework that ties everything together, that allows us to understand society, the world, and our place in it, and that could help us to make the critical decisions which will shape our future. It would synthesize the wisdom gathered in the different scientific disciplines, philosophies and religions.
Rather than focusing on small sections of reality, it would provide us with a picture of the whole. In particular, it would help us to understand, and therefore cope with, complexity and change. Such a conceptual framework may be called a “world view”.
There are seven fundamental components of a world view. I will discuss them one by one, attempting to capture the main ideas.
A model of the world
It should allow us to understand how the world functions and how it is structured. “World” here means the totality, everything that exists around us, including the physical universe, the Earth, life, mind, society and culture. We ourselves are an important part of that world. Therefore, a world view should also answer the basic question: “Who are we?”.
Explanation
The second component is supposed to explain the first one. It should answer the questions: “Why is the world the way it is? Where does it all come from? Where do we come from?”. This is perhaps the most important part of a world view. If we can explain how and why a particular phenomenon (say life or mind) has arisen, we will be able to better understand how that phenomenon functions. It will also help us to understand how that phenomenon will continue to evolve.
Futurology
This extrapolation of past evolution into the future defines a third component of a world view: futurology. It should answer the question “Where are we going to?” It should give us a list of possibilities, of more or less probable future developments. But this will confront us with a choice: which of the different alternatives should we promote and which should we avoid?
Values
This is the more fundamental issue of value: “What is good and what is evil?” The theory of values defines the fourth component of a world view. It includes morality or ethics, the system of rules which tells us how we should or should not behave. It also gives us a sense of purpose, a direction or set of goals to guide our actions. Together with the answer to the question “why?”, the answer to the question “what for?”, may help us to understand the real meaning of life.
Action
Knowing what to strive for does not yet mean knowing how to get there, though. The next component must be a theory of action (praxiology). It would answer the question “How should we act?” It would help us to solve practical problems and to implement
plans of action.
Knowledge
Plans are based on knowledge and information, on theories and models describing the phenomena we encounter. Therefore, we need to understand how we can construct reliable models. This is the component of knowledge acquisition. It is equivalent to what in philosophy is called “epistemology” or “the theory of knowledge”. It should allow us to distinguish better theories from worse theories. It should answer the traditional philosophical question “What is true and what is false?”
Building Blocks
The final point on the agenda of a world view builder is not meant to answer any fundamental question. It just reminds us that world views cannot be developed from scratch. You need building blocks to start with. These building blocks can be found in existing theories, models, concepts, guidelines and values, scattered over the different disciplines and ideologies. This defines the seventh component: fragments of world views as a starting point.
After considering the main worldviews held by most all of mankind, how does one go about deciding which one is best, which must be false, and which one, if any, has a high probably of being true? (Truth is that which matches up with reality.)
To begin with, we must assume that something exists. Every full-orbed worldview recognizes this. Next, we must assume that we can actually know something, and that we can think true thoughts. A reasonable starting-point for this might well be that of Descartes’ reasoning: “I think, therefore I am.” This demonstrates that we do exist, and that we know something which is self-evidently true …a reasonable starting point.
Along with assuming that we can know something, come the three laws of logical thought, which are: the law of identity, the law of opposites, and the law of non-contradiction.
The “Law of Identity” states: In a certain specific context (set of facts and circumstances), a proposition (thing or situation) has only one single meaning.
The “Law of Opposites” (or the “excluded middle”) states: That one specific meaning is either true or false, but cannot be both.
“The Law of Non-Contradiction” states: Two such propositions cannot both be true, if one affirms while the other denies the same thing at the same time and in the same respect.
If these laws of thought are denied, then all meaningful thought and communication is destroyed, and our existence proceeds into nonsense and nihilism.
The Three Truth-Tests
Logical thinking allows us to list three distinctive qualities which test the truthfulness of any worldview:
FIRST, an adequate worldview must be consistent within itself, and non-contradictory. Any contradiction is a definite indication that the worldview contains at least some untruth; And if the contradiction involves an essential element of the worldview, then the worldview must be false, having failed the first truth-test.
SECOND, an adequate worldview must fit virtually all the relevant facts and data of reality and human experience. The worldview which accounts for the greatest number of facts, with the fewest difficulties, has the highest probability of being a worldview which is true. A worldview which is inconsistent with human experience and with the empirical facts of history, nature and the universe, fails the second truth-test.
THIRD, an adequate worldview must be subjectively satisfactory and livable on an every-day basis. We must ask: When a man is done philosophizing about the nature of his worldview, can he live it out, and does he actually practice it in his daily life? …If not, then the actions of his life reveal his true inner conviction of the untruth of that worldview …it is not livable, therefore, that worldview fails the third truth-test.
Study any worldview, and evaluate it with these truth-tests in mind.
Developing a world view that supports connecting to your inner guidance is an essential part of being able to develop your intuitive power. In an effort to make sense out of our world, we develop a philosophy of life. For most of us this philosophy is the basis of our core beliefs. As we saw earlier, beliefs have the power to inhibit or empower our development. Our philosophy of life answers existential questions: Who are we? Why are we here? How do we relate to the Creator or the Universal forces?
There are many ways to answer these questions; consequently, a variety of philosophies have developed throughout the world. I do not believe there is any one correct world view. If there is an ultimate truth, I am not qualified to discern what it is. However, I find it helpful to judge philosophies not on the basis of right or wrong, but on their ability to empower or inhibit the expression of my potential. I encourage you to reevaluate your world view judging it on its ability to inhibit or empower you to express yourself fully.
In the following paragraphs, I am sharing my world view with you. It is a philosophy that supports your ability to tap into the divine wisdom and develop your intuitive powers. It is not THE truth, but it is MY truth. Feel free to accept those parts that make sense to you and discard those ideas that do not fit your understanding of life. Your philosophy is ultimately your choice. It may be the most sacred choice you have; therefore, choose wisely.
My philosophy is best defined as Spiritualistic, New Thought Christianity or Metaphysical Christianity. This is not New Age, not Mysticism, not Mind Cure, not Mental Science and definitely not Christian Science. It is however: A total belief in God and the search for Truth, Love and Spiritual Law. It is based on the teachings of God with a metaphysical interpretation.
My most fundamental philosophical belief is the oneness of all life. There is one life (unity) expressing itself through all life forms (diversity), and that life is God, the good omnipotent. God is everywhere present, everywhere intelligent, and everywhere powerful. It is God flowing through me, expressing as me, creating my world. The me I think of as ego or personality is simply an extension of this incredible force that creates the entire universe. I am connected, through the spirit part of me, to All That Is. There is one mind, one spirit, and it is God.
Therefore, when I desire information, wisdom, or knowledge, it is available to me through my spirit self, from the one mind of God. As I allow myself (ego/personality) to connect to the one mind (God), I have easy access to all the information I need in my life. I have the ability to take my conscious awareness through the spirit self into the one mind to connect to anything I wish to know. I can either open my spiritual centers allowing the information to flow into my mind, or I can raise my awareness to the one mind and get the information I need.
In my philosophy, I am only separated from this oneness when I limit myself through fear or a false belief in separation. The connection is always there. It is only my choice as to where I focus my awareness that gives me the feeling of oneness or separation. When I focus my attention on the unity of life, I experience peace, harmony, and fulfillment. When I choose to turn my powerful consciousness towards separation, I experience fear and lack. It is my beliefs, thoughts, words, and imagination that create my experiences in life.
This philosophy empowers me to access Divine wisdom, develop my intuitive power, and live a peaceful, harmonious, abundant life.
What is it about this Spiritual “way of life” that makes me so unique? I try to always act positively, instead of reacting negatively; use words that are kind, helpful and uplifting – not angry or discouraging; practice forgiveness, instead of judgment and condemnation; act with kindness and patience, instead of haste and rudeness; seek and see the good in all situations even those that may at first, seem adverse to them; behold the Christ in all persons, even at those times when it is difficult to do so; do not use force or threats to gain an advantage – but pray and trust God to bring forth the highest good for all; volunteer and give of myself for the sake of expressing good, rather than to be “seen of men.”
The search for truth, love and spiritual fulfillment are of course the very things that allow the more physical laws (those made by men and science) to explain and justify their usually outrageous decisions. These man-made laws cannot change anything – they are merely there to try to explain. With a practical twentieth century approach to classical old philosophies, I believe that religion must, overall, be practical and should apply (and be applied) to both the problems and the joys of everyday life.
To develop your intuitive powers and receive inner guidance … you need to adopt a philosophy that enables you to find answers within yourself. There are many philosophies from which to choose. My philosophy is only one possibility!
