The following is the scoop on the Mercury Retrograde August-September 2016 in Virgo cycle. As is always the case, Mercury goes retrograde approximately every three and a half months for a period of about three and a half weeks.
Below are the dates for Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September
– Mercury Entered It’s Pre-Shadow in Virgo on August 10th
– The third Mercury Retrograde 2016 occurs in Virgo on August 30th

– Mercury leaves it’s Post-Shadow phase on October 7
This upcoming August/September retrograde will be all about getting the details right. Mercury is actually content in this sign because it is one of the two signs over which it rules. So it’s happy playing in logical territory. Virgo is the sign of perfection, making the necessary tweaks and adjustments that make the difference between something that isn’t quite working properly because one important little detail is off, versus a well-oiled machine.
Circumstances will likely point us in the direction of realizing that, yes, very little of life is perfect and we may have to settle for the next best thing. But right now, it’s those little details that will make all the difference in the world. So rather than doing an “OK” job, take time to work out the kinks and imperfections and find the little culprit in the system.
Because Virgo represents the little details, this suggests that the answer to conundrums may lie in the advice of experts. So don’t bother wasting your time thinking that you can cram 2 years of intricate learning into a couple of hours. It’s worth your time to admit the limits of your knowledge and find that expert who knows how to replace a part that you didn’t even know existed, no less its function.
Ask questions! If you don’t quite understand something, don’t be shy or embarrassed about asking for an explanation. This is a good time to learn something that adds on to your current base of knowledge. Remember: The only stupid question is one that isn’t asked. Think logically and put order into your world. Virgo likes to be neat, clean, efficient, healthy and organized. Streamline! Less is more. Again, it’s the little things.
Mercury Retrograde through the signs: As you partake of this information, feel free to read not just your sun sign but also your ascendant or rising sign if you know it.
And one last note: A lot of people feel more of the retrograde effects during the shadow leading up to the retrograde. It’s nice to get it out of the way and deal with the productive fallout when it actually is retrograde. And it also depends on which planets it triggers in your chart. If it doesn’t hit anything by a critical aspect in your chart, this cycle may go by virtually unnoticed.
Best of luck during this cycle. Remember: Forewarned is Forearmed!

Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September for Aries
This retrograde takes place in your solar 6th house, the area of the chart associated with day-to-day work, co-workers and health matters. This is a great time to clean up your desk and surroundings and get all your paperwork in order. Expect logistical glitches in the workplace such as technology issues slowing things down, and pay attention to how you communicate with co-workers or people in positions of assisting others. Don’t assume that a job is completed to your satisfaction. Check the fine print. From a health perspective, go back and review old records. You could have an issue from the past revisit you. This can be a tricky time for having medical tests completed accurately. If a result comes back suspicious or inconclusive, it might be prudent to wait until Mercury has gone direct before retesting, assuming of course, this is not an urgent issue. If it is urgent, a second test immediately or a second opinion might be warranted.
Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September for Taurus
Falling in your solar 5th house, the areas of life likely to arise for you include children and other loved ones such as romantic partners, as well as creative endeavors such as hobbies or anything that puts you or things you create on the stage. When dealing with children, be explicit and listen to the details they are attempting to communicate to you. This can be a great time to learn from one another, especially when it comes to each of your areas of expertise. Help kids get back on track. Be careful not to make assumptions when communicating with them or romantic partners. If these folks are on the fence about something, give them time to mull things over. Perhaps it’s just not the right time for them to make a decision. All the data may not be in yet. When it comes to creative endeavors and hobbies, this can be a fitting time to pull something back out of the closet and give it another look. Some reworking may be in order and that’s just fine. Or you may find that something you’ve always wanted to explore is now calling your name again. Heed the call.
Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September for Gemini
Your home environment will be the focal point of your attention for this cycle. Perhaps the best way to look at the days ahead is to view them as one giant “Honey-do” list. No doubt you can think of myriad little fixes that are crying out for attention. It’s time to call that local handyman who can fix just about anything or knows someone who can. If you happen to make it through this entire retrograde without one thing breaking and requiring either a repair or a replacement, consider yourself fortunate. This is also a great time for cleaning up the premises, finding ways of making the home run more efficiently. If it feels overwhelming, concentrate on one little area at a time. You might be surprised at how quickly things fall into place, not to mention the things you stumble upon that you forgot you even had. The late night hours tend to be mentally restless, so find ways of calming the mind. Watch communication with family members, especially parents.
Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September for Cancer
This cycle will impact all forms of communicating, from writing to speaking as well as travel, especially of the short-distance variety, such as commuting. Sales and to some extent marketing could also fall under this category. If you’re working on anything that is going to go into print in some form or fashion, be sure all the data is accurate and have another set of eyes preview your work before you hit the “Send” button. Remember that even “Spell Check” makes mistakes. Is it reading such things as the correct tense? When traveling, take a moment to take with you what you need. Is that charger the one that might not be working so well? If you’re making travel plans, double check your various connections. If you don’t get timely confirmations, get on the stick immediately. Have a backup of access to data. Watch communications with neighbors and siblings. Be explicit. Expect old matters to resurface.
Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September for Leo
Keep your eye on your financial picture. This is a great time to go back through your budgets, statements and receipts with a fine-tooth comb. There may be some things amiss or you may be called upon to produce financial documentation from the past. Making major purchases at this time, especially things of a mechanical or digital nature, is not recommended. The same goes for precision instruments and transportation-related items. However, as luck often has it during a retrograde, your back may be up against a wall. If you have little choice in the matter because you can’t do without your car, phone, tablet or computer, then by all means, do your homework. Is what you’re considering buying going to be a good fit with what it’s supposed to complement? Are the prices quoted guaranteed? What is the return policy? And no matter how petty, hold on to those receipts. If you can use this as a time to do your homework in anticipation of an impending purchase once Mercury goes direct, that would be ideal.
Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September for Virgo
There’s no escaping it. This retrograde takes place in your sign. Look on the bright side. The next time Mercury goes retrograde in your sign again is 6 years from now, so you’ve got plenty of time to plan for it, once this one is out of the way. The news isn’t necessarily all bad. Yes, you may feel as though you have a target on your back that invites anything technical or logistical to play around with your sanity. But this is also a fine time to redefine yourself, sort of like re-branding. Perhaps you want to present yourself in a way that zeroes in on differing areas of expertise. Adopt a more fitting moniker or a new look. Tweak some of the adjustments you’ve been making to your health regime. Keep in mind that as long as Mercury is actually retrograde, you could be trying various approaches on for size. A little trial and error may be what is needed before closing in on your final options. In the process, watch how you express and present yourself to others. Your language of choice may somehow seem foreign to those around you.
Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September for Libra
There comes a time when the best thing to do is to not think at all. This doesn’t necessarily mean you master the art of meditation overnight. But what it does mean is that sometimes you can hash and rehash things so much that the process no longer serves a purpose. There’s nothing more to learn. It’s time to let the data sink in. Once you’ve allowed some time for that to happen, you’re more likely to have an “aha!” moment, a flash of inspiration. But trying to push the river isn’t likely to work. Allow those instincts that encourage corrections to come about naturally. The more you focus on something other than your point of your conundrum, the less likely you are to find understanding, as counter-intuitive as that may sound. If you have a favorite spot to go, seek it out. Immerse yourself in it and just let your mind be.
Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September 2016 for Scorpio
Your social circle will be your area of focus during this cycle. One of the most interesting facets of a Mercury retrograde is hearing from people from your past. And for you, this is doubly true. The ripple effect of connections we make throughout the history of our life is a fascinating web to behold. Take stock of the various links or branches. It wouldn’t be at all surprising if you stumble upon a critical connection. Or you may meet people who feel so very familiar to you that you could swear you’ve met them before. This may be a throwback to another lifetime as you reconnect the dots once again. When you’re dealing with people most familiar already, such as close friends and colleagues, make a point of listening very carefully to them. This is not a time when they’re interested in glossing over the surface. Get down to the nuts and bolts of the issues at hand. Your mutual expertise may be of help.
Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September for Sagittarius
Within the broad brushstrokes of life, there are still fine lines lurking within. Making big things happen relies upon getting the little things right. The fines lines requiring your attention right now are those involved with your career. If you feel that you’re not quite on the right path, perhaps it’s time to step back and analyze how you can most efficiently apply your expertise. Perhaps it’s time to redefine your role. Putting this in the hands of an adviser or counselor would be well worth your investment. They may have a more intimate knowledge of the playing field than you. This is also a fine time to catch up with previous employers, if only to say hello. Decision-makers or bosses may not be readily available for timely input or feedback. Be careful when it comes to making assumptions as to their expectations.
Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September for Capricorn
Since this retrograde will take place in a fellow earth sign, it may not be one of the more challenging retrogrades for you. In fact, whatever re-doing or re-configuring happens to be in the works, it’s most likely very timely and workable. This may easily entail projects that are geographically distant from your current home turf. Reconnecting with international folks is perfectly in order. And this is also a fine time for revisiting distant lands, perhaps to gain a more detailed, hands-on perspective. If travel adjustments have to be made in the process, chances are you’ll end up with better accommodations than you anticipated. If travel isn’t on your horizon, another fine use of this cycle is to brush up on areas of study. Reconnecting with your collegiate years can prove helpful.
Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September for Aquarius
Although this retrograde doesn’t fall in your element, in a funny way, you can relate to it, primarily because it peaks your curiosity. It’s true that it could find you digging into issues that may seem a bit deep, intimate or private. But as you put your subconscious mind to work, you may realize that you’re picking up on some not-so-subtle queues from those around you. It’s as if your inner voices are setting up conversations that mirror what’s going on inside you. On a purely practical level, this is a great time to go back and reexamine such things as insurance policies, wills, estate matters and jointly held assets. You may even find yourself doing research in very narrowly defined fields, or concerning such topics as sex or dreams. This can also be a good time to get your paperwork in order if you’re looking at applying for a loan in the near future.
Mercury Retrograde 2016 August-September for Pisces
Since this cycle takes place in your opposing sign, it will occupy your solar 7th house, which has to do with one-on-one relationships such as partnerships, consulting relationships and contracts. If you’re in a relationship, this may be a time when your counterpart is in the process of re-evaluating something important. They need time to hash over all the details before coming to a conclusion, so don’t push them for answers. If you’re in a decision-making dilemma, a counselor who has done you justice in times past may be just the person to turn to for some grounded input. If you are in the process of negotiating a contract, your best bet is to not only have an intermediary to look over the fine print, but you might even want a second opinion on top of that. Since the devil is in the details, you’d be wise to have an expert in the appropriate niche, to give you the OK before you sign on the dotted line.
