Hospital Audiences, Inc. (HAI) provides access to the arts to New Yorkers who are isolated from the cultural mainstream. Hospital Audiences, Inc. (HAI) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1969 by Michael Jon Spencer to provide access to the arts to culturally isolated New Yorkers. HAI service recipients include people with mental and physical disabilities, mentally retarded/ developmentally disabled persons, bed-confined/ wheelchair-users, visually and hearing-impaired individuals, the homeless, the frail elderly, youth at risk, participants in substance abuse programs, persons with HIV/AIDS and individuals in correctional facilities. In 34 years, through 334,000 cultural events, an audience of 10,600,000 have participated in HAI events: 2,250,000 attended theater, concert hall and special events and 8,350,000 attended performances and concerts on-site at human service settings. HAI's work is made possible by city, state and federal agencies as well as foundation, corporate and individual support. The goals of HAI is to bring Hope And Inspiration by providing access to the arts.
