Elder abuse is a growing problem which occurs daily in every community. Abuse can involve physical harm, financial exploitation, emotional or verbal abuse, neglect (including self-neglect) or abandonment. All forms of abuse are devastating and often occur in isolation making it difficult to identify the need for help. Dementia such as Alzheimer's Disease and other factors often make it difficult for an older adult to ask for help. Elder abuse requires a community response. Anyone who suspects abuse, or knows of a vunlnerable older adult who is at risk is in a position to help. Please call Elder Abuse Prevention at (510) 233-3427 for more information.
