Electronic Ballast Design for HID Lamps

Presently, the energy saving related issues have increasing importance. Substitution of low efficient equipment with high efficient ones are strongly recommended. HID lighting industry is one of these areas where the high efficient electronic ballasts can provide significant energy saving. The purpose of this site to present a simple overview about the specific features of HID lamps and related ballast requirements. A comparison method of different ballasts from energy saving viewpoint is presented. Some of these electronic ballast designs for HID lamps are also briefly introduced. Janos Melis (master degree in power electronics) has been involved in research and development of HID electronic ballasts for over 15 years. He has written several electronic ballast related papers and patents.
