On the 20th of January, the sun enters the fixed air sign of Aquarius, that which is symbolized by the water bearer. As the water bearer is often depicted, it shows a person pouring vessels of water into a pool of water.
There is a sense of the water being dispersed. Indeed it is the task of this sign to disperse knowledge, but not of the conventional type. Being ruled the by planet of Uranus, the so-called rebel of the solar system, Aquarius tends to draw outside the lines, think outside the box and dance to the proverbial beat of their own drum.
They are anything but followers or joiners. Yes, they do see their role as contributing to humanity and in that manner can be excellent spokespeople for their chosen cause.
But despite being a friendly sign, they can often be a bit on the aloof side, preferring people in crowds rather than on a one-on-one style. Ronald Reagan was this sort of Aquarian and the first to admit his preference for the collective.
The job of this sign is to break down barriers, to bring about change, to look at the world from a wholly different perspective than the traditional or conventional.
It is matter of fact, intelligent, objective, intuitive, inventive and in some ways visionary. Many inventors possess Aquarian influences in their charts, such as the sun or Mercury in this sign, or they may have Uranus, the ruler, in a prominent place in their chart.
They excel in things mechanical as well as the unconventional. Being an air sign, they also do well with occupations associated with this element such as being around airports, airplanes, aviation and aeronautics, appliances and machinery in general.
Because of their desire to be contemporary, they are comfortable with new gadgets or technology. The social side of their personality can impart a proclivity for working in social services and the portion of the sign associated with the distribution or redistribution of the elements lends it to the involvement with the nerves and blood, electricity, radiology, telecommunications, motion pictures, and anything cutting edge. An interest in the unconventional can translate into a curiosity for such fields as astrology.
Understanding an Aquarius.. know that Uranus rules this sign, Mercury is exalted in it, the Sun finds its detriment here and Neptune finds its fall here. The exaltation of Mercury makes sense because this planet is the lower octave of Uranus, and therefore imparts ingenuity to the thinking process.
The sun loses some of its ego-centered spunk here as it is forced to defer to the masses. And Neptune finds its fall her because this planets tends to be more dreamy, illusive and imaginative, and therefore not suited for the clear-minded leanings of the water bearer.
